Optic Gaming now has a Dota 2 e-sports team
When you hear the name ‘Optic Gaming,’ you most likely think of Call of Duty or Counter Strike or even Gears of War since the iconic e-sports outfit tends to stick mainly to shooters when it comes to actual competition. However, Optic has now confirmed the signing of a team within a different (yet no less popular) e-sports arena: Valve’s MOBA title Dota 2.
Over the past weekend, Optic announced it had signed on with a lesser-known pro Dota 2 team called The Dire. While it’s not the most recognizable team in the North America Dota 2 scene, The Dire has already made some waves, qualifying for the upcoming Summit 8 tournament and making it to the finals in several other qualifier events and smaller-scale tournaments.
Of course, that’s not terribly surprising since some of The Dire’s team members include Peter “ppd” Dager (who won The International 5 back in 2015 while serving as captain of Evil Geniuses) and Rasmus “MiSeRy” Filipsen who finished second at The International just last year. In short, Optic is clearly hoping to dominate the Dota 2 scene much like it has already dominated the competitive scenes of various shooter games, and with a team like The Dire, it will likely succeed.
